The Calipso Press Printing Residency Program hosts artists to develop an editorial or printing project in Cali, Colombia getting to know the different graphic possibilities available in the city.
The printing guild is characterised by an industrial model of small workshops gathered around the district of San Nicolás.
This used to be a residential area downtown until the mid 1960’s when people started reconverting their homes into small
workshops. Now the district is fully industrial while maintaining a format of small repurposed houses where one can find vintage machines from the beginning of the 19th Century as well as the latest technologies in printing.
The strength of the project lies in using these technologies typically used for advertisement, flyers, newspapers, magazines for artistic purposes having to engage with the local printer and negotiate and learn a way of creating these new works.
